Competition for the positions of Assistant professor (Polish “adiunkt”) in Molecular Embryology

Director of the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Jastrzębiec opens competition for the positions of Assistant professor (Polish “adiunkt”) in Molecular Embryology

on the basis of article 91 (paragraph 5) of Act of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 30th of April 2010 (Bulletin of Acts. Number 96 Position. 619), Statute of IGiHZ PAN and Regulations of competition procedure in employment for scientific position in the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences from 2nd February 2012.

Department of Experimental Embryology of the Institute of Genetics and Animal Breeding of the Polish Academy of Sciences  (IGAB PAS) in Jastrzębiec/near Warsaw is seeking for a research scientist with expertise and hands-on experience in genetic modification techniques in mammalian cells. In this role, you will provide molecular biology expertise to our team focused recently on  molecular and epigenetic aspects of early mammalian development.

IGAB PAS has the European status of the Centre of Excellence in Genomics, Biotechnology and Quality of Animal Products in Sustainable Production Systems with consideration of Animal Welfare. In 2015 IGAB PAS received a prestigious status of KNOW (Leading National Scientific Center) in the Scientific Consortium: "Healthy Animal - Safe Food".

Our Department is one of the leading laboratories in Poland in the field of mammalian experimental embryology and developmental biology. The main focus of our international group is investigating preimplantation development of mammalian embryos, including: the nucleo-cytoplasmic interactions in early mammalian development,  mechanisms of  nuclear reprogramming,  mechanisms of early lineage determination in preimplantation mammalian embryos as well as to studying the long-term effect of parental age on  the development and behaviour  of offspring.  Highly motivated individuals with strong interest in early mammalian embryology will have opportunity apply for internal ESR grant funding to develop their own projects (corresponding with Department's goals), and benefit from our expertise in experimental embryology, animal facilities and modern equipment.

 

As a Researcher in the Department of Experimental Embryology IGAB PAS,   you will:

  • Provide scientific leadership in your area of expertise
  • Be responsible for the planning and experimental design of all research activities associated with your project role.
  • Effectively communicate your conclusions and recommendations to the team.
  • Utilize literature and patent searches, as well as connecting with your  colleagues to learn new skills and/or seek collaborators to meet project needs.
  • Contribute to the pipeline of new ideas.
  • deliverables contribute to our project goals.
  • Exemplify IGAB PAS values, including scientific integrity and teamwork.   

 

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed PhD studies in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biological Sciences , or related discipline
  • Broad knowledge of molecular biology with demonstrable experience (at least 3 years) in molecular laboratory techniques of genetic modification of mammalian cells, including gene silencing, knock-in and knock-out methods, generation of reporter cell lines.
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive understanding of the safety and regulatory requirements of a biology laboratory
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Leadership/participation of/in external funding projects.
  • Good experience in international cooperation

  11. international visits: scientific trainings, conferences participation (country, institution, aim of visit, duration of visit),
  12. international and national prizes, awards (year of obtaining)
